CGS South Bay Chapter, Saturday, Jan 9, 2010 to discuss CEDAW

Dear Members and Friends of the South Bay Chapter of the Citizens for Global Solutions California,

Sorry this notice is getting out late, but our bi-monthly national teleconference is this Saturday, Jan. 9th.

The topic is an important one – the CEDAW treaty (Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women). This is the UN women’s human rights treaty that provides and international standard for protecting and promoting women’s human rights. As with all UN treaties this must be ratified by participating countries. The treaty was passed int eh UN General Assembly on Dec. 18, 1979, and was signed by President Carter on behalf of the United States in 1980. While 186 nations have ratified CEDAW, the United States has failed to and is keeping company with Sudan, Somalia and Iran. (Thirty years certainly have given us time to evaluate this treaty.)

Please join us at the home of Wendell Harter, 821 – 8th Street, Manhattan Beach.
Starting time 9:45, Conference call 10:00 – 11:00, followed by a short local action meeting.

For those unable to attend the call is available by dialing 888-299-4099, passcode VJ85634

The tool kit giving more information can be accessed through CGS website www.globalsolutions.org/partners

Hope to see you Saturday.
